A working manuscript, not just a workshop

Most writing workshops end with notes. This one ends with a draft in your hands.

Across fourteen daily sessions, participants take a single manuscript — their own, in progress or newly started — from a blank page toward a submission-ready package: title and abstract, verified literature, methods, results, discussion, formatted references, a cover letter, and a response-to-reviewers draft.

Each session pairs one writing-craft topic with a hands-on task, with sustained attention to using Claude AI as a drafting and verification partner — never as a substitute for your own judgement.

Built for researchers, not spectators

This programme assumes you're actively writing, or about to. Come with a topic, a dataset, or a draft in progress.

What fourteen sessions actually change

AI drafts. You verify. Always in that order.

Every session that touches Claude AI comes with an explicit verification step — cross-checking citations against real databases, confirming every number against source data, rejecting any edit that quietly changes a claim's meaning. The programme treats AI fluency and research integrity as the same skill, not a trade-off between them.

Fourteen days, in order

Each day builds on the manuscript you're already writing. Open a day for its learning outcomes and hands-on task.

WEEK ONE Foundations — from idea to a full first draft
01
ORIENTATION
Publishing Landscape & Setting Up Claude AI
Journal indexing (SCI/SCIE, Scopus, UGC-CARE), spotting predatory journals, and orienting to Claude AI's strengths and limitations.
Details
Hands-on
Shortlist two target journals in your field; use Claude AI to summarise each journal's "Aims & Scope" into a one-paragraph fit-check against your topic.
02
ANATOMY
Manuscript Anatomy, Titles & Abstracts
The core sections of a manuscript, title-crafting techniques, and the 4-part abstract formula.
Details
Hands-on
Draft your own title and abstract manually, then compare against three AI-generated alternatives line by line before producing a final, human-edited version.
03
LITERATURE
Literature Review & AI-Assisted Reference Management
Structured literature search, reference managers, and why AI models can invent plausible but non-existent citations.
Details
Hands-on
Synthesise 8–10 papers into a literature-review paragraph with Claude AI, then cross-check every citation and load the verified set into Zotero.
04
INTRO
Writing the Introduction — Research Gap & Novelty
The background–gap–objective–significance flow, and common weaknesses in gap statements.
Details
Hands-on
Draft your Introduction, then have Claude AI critique it as a "devil's advocate" reviewer — incorporating only the suggestions you agree with.
05
METHODS
Methodology Writing & Reproducibility
Writing a Methods section detailed enough for replication, and applying reporting checklists (CONSORT, PRISMA, STROBE).
Details
Hands-on
Run your Methods draft through a completeness check with Claude AI, verifying any suggested reporting standard independently before citing it.
06
RESULTS
Results — Data Presentation & AI-Assisted Narrative
Effective tables and figures, and writing a non-interpretive Results narrative.
Details
Hands-on
Give Claude AI your exact figures and ask for narrative sentences — then verify every number in the AI-drafted text against your source data.
07
DISCUSSION
Discussion & Conclusion — Interpreting Results Responsibly
Structuring key finding → comparison → implications → limitations, without overclaiming.
Details
Hands-on
Constrain Claude AI to your Day 3 verified reference list only, rejecting any comparison that cites an unlisted source.
WEEK TWO AI mastery, integrity & the road to submission
08
PROMPTING
Deep Dive — Prompt Engineering for Manuscript Drafting
Core prompt-engineering techniques, iterative refinement, and matching AI tone to a target journal's house style.
Details
Hands-on
Build a personal library of five reusable prompts — title, abstract, expansion, synthesis, discussion — tested on your own manuscript.
09
CITATIONS
Accurate Reference Generation & Citation Formatting
Citation styles (APA, Vancouver, IEEE), and the rule: verify first, let AI format second — never generate from memory.
Details
Hands-on
Reformat your verified reference list into two citation styles, manually confirming every DOI resolves and matches its source.
10
LANGUAGE
AI-Assisted Language Editing & Academic Tone
Clear, concise academic tone, and common issues for ESL writers.
Details
Hands-on
Run a three-pass AI edit — clarity, conciseness, tone — logging every suggestion as Accepted or Rejected with a reason.
11
ETHICS
Research & Publication Ethics + Responsible AI Disclosure
COPE and ICMJE positions on AI and authorship, and publisher AI-use policies.
Details
Hands-on
Locate your target journals' AI-disclosure policies and draft an accurate AI Assistance Disclosure statement for your own manuscript.
12
INTEGRITY
Similarity Checking, Paraphrasing & Responsible Revision
Interpreting similarity reports, and ethical paraphrasing versus superficial synonym-swapping.
Details
Hands-on
Rephrase flagged passages with Claude AI in your own voice, verify meaning is unchanged, and re-check the similarity score.
13
SUBMISSION
Journal Formatting, Cover Letters & Submission Package
Decoding "Instructions to Authors," and cover-letter anatomy.
Details
Hands-on
Reformat your manuscript to a chosen journal's template and draft a cover letter from your manuscript's real content, then personalise it fully.
14
REVIEW
Peer Review Simulation & Final Manuscript Polish
The peer-review lifecycle, and drafting a point-by-point response to reviewers.
Details
Hands-on
Peer-review a classmate's manuscript, draft responses to sample reviewer comments, and complete a final proofreading pass — ready for submission.
